day 6: Sustainable development

Hey my name in Andrea!! Today I was leader of the day along day with Anna (Anna Banana). It wasn’t too difficult considering we have an amazing group and today was simple. We started the day off where we ended off yesterday, which was Puerto Plata. We had a 3 hour drive home to our villa, where we rested a bit before heading off to La Escuela de Sordos Mudos. That is a school for the deaf and mute here in Jarabacoa. We got to hear the backstory and received a tour, along with learning how to say our name in sign language. Today was full of lots of lots of learning and inspiration!! Hearing how Ms. Beatrice (the principal and founder) stepped up and took action, really inspired me and made me stop and think about how I can further take action and be a leader myself. Shoutout to my mama and family, I love and miss you guys 😘

Hi, this is Anna! I was leader of the day today with Andrea. Today, we traveled from Puerto Plata back to our villa in Jarabacao and then to the Escuela pada Sordos. The Escuela is run by a religious group called Asociación Damas Salesianas. We heard Ms. Beatrice’s story of how she became a leader, creating the first school for the deaf in this area. She explained how she went door to door surveying family’s needs before creating her school, and her dedication and persistence inspired all of us. Her attention to the wants and needs of the community showed me important skills of being a leader and overall affected my view of being Leader of the Day. I love and miss you mom!!💕
