Day 6: Making Connections

We started our day by waking up at 7 AM at our hotel. When I saw that time, I was like “Oh heck no. Who wants to wake up that early?” (Brianna). Soon as we woke up, we had breakfast and was ready to be on a 4 hour bus ride.

During the bus ride, we were singing, Frozen and a Moana song that made it more fun. all I wanted to do was sleep, but what can we do.
After, we had an amazing guest speaker who had the opportunity to talk with us about the things he does in the community of Constanza.

He gave us a brief explanation of what we are going to do to help out Doña Altagracia build her future home. I couldn’t say it to him, but I just want to thank him for giving us this opportunity and trusting us on doing this important project. Thank you!

Mariana: After 5 PM we came back to Alto Cerro for our Community Action Project set up as we are starting our main goal tomorrow with helping and lending a hand in rebuilding a house. We split our group of 19 into groups of four with at least one Spanish speaker and heavy lifter. We struggled at first as we were going back-and-forth with who should go where, if our plan would even work, and just thinking about the next few days. We got through it though!

After that, we had dinner. It was the good ol hamburger and fries. C’Maria challenged herself to finish it in 3 bites but managed in 2. Props to her, she gained my respect! Later, we played two short games of Uno with regular playing cards (Kings = +2 Queen = reverse, Jack = skip, Joker = wild card). At 8 PM, we went to do our nightly meeting. We reviewed our day, said our pluses and wishes, and finally passed down our roles as LDDs. I am hoping tomorrow we have just as much fun helping someone’s living in conditions as we have living our own. -Mariana
