Day 6: Community Action Project (CAP) Day 2

Hello Friends and Families,

This is Patricia, Jay, and Sage (PJS), your Lideres del Día for our second day of working on our CAP (Community Action Project).

As mentioned in the last blog where we first started our CAP, all of us are working together to leave our mark on the community of Turrialba, Costa Rica. We are working to provide them with a clean and potable water source in their homes by digging trenches to replace the piping to deliver the water.

Following our daily routine we woke up from 6:30 am to 7:00 am to eat our breakfast of Gallo Pinto (rices and beans), scrambles eggs, toast, fruits, and juice. After breakfast we all gathered outside on the field to play a game of Red Light, Green Light to warm up our bodies for the hard work that was to come! Unfortunately, our mental warm up was forced to an early end as heavy rain started to pour down slightly delaying our depart to the site of the trenches.

The downpour of rain slightly reduced as we started our depart to the site of the trenches, the heavy rain caused slightly heavy fog on our journey, but was doable as we successfully reached the site. Once we reached the site we continued our work in the trenches from the day, however our might was tried by the water that filled our already dug trenches which made it so much harder to work without slipping or getting mud in our shoes. Persist we did though, as we finished deepening our trenches from the day before and laid the pipe to be buried under the dirt we shoveled.

After hours of long work in heavy downpour, we successfully completed the trenches we dug the day before as we went beyond expectation with the reward of extra free time once we come back from the site. Our group split off into two, one group going back to our base house to relax after a hard day at work while another small group went down the trail from our site to return some tools to another base house. The small group took so long to clean and put away the tools that our Leader of The Day, Jay, thought they died and recorded her will before she went to check on them (They were all safe and completely fine).

After eating our lunch of cod, salad, plantains, and rice we reveled in our extended free time. For most of us, we used this time to freshen up after a tiring time digging and finishing up the trenches. Though most of us were tired after freshening up, some of us went to the pulpería (cornerstore) and explored the wide ranged of snacks and drinks for sale.

Our free time had came to an end and led to our letters of appreciation segment of the day. During this segment of our day, we wrote letters to our supporters of Global Glimpse as we talked about time on our trip and how it has impacted our lives as a whole. With this time, we were able to reflect on our fond memories with our time on this trip and how we want to go forward with the bonds and memories we have created.

We then ended our day with dinner which consisted of a type of chicken bean soup, rice, and a side of salad. Following with our nightly meeting after dinner and our usual card games of spoons. 😀 !!!
