Day 6: CAP Day 1

Hola Familias!!

Today was the first day for our CAP PROJECT!!!! After a grueling 40 minute walk we arrived at a water treatment plant, where we partnered with a local foreman and learned the first part of our project.  We partnered with ASADA, the local water purifying company of Turrialba, we cleaned and painted the outsides of multiple large water tanks for about 3 hours. Then from there we transitioned to the local soccer fields where we had our chef Diego bring us our lunches. THANK YOU CHEF DIEGO !!

After that we cleaned up trash at the soccer field and then proceeded to walk back to the house where we had free time until dinner. Many of us hung out in the pool while others napped, went on runs, and played games.

Dinner tonight was Lentil soup, white rice, and salad, which was very yummy. We finished the night off with a 35 minute video about Ecotourism to prepare us for tomorrow. More to come about that…

As a team we learned how to communicate, compromise, and collaborate to help our delegation prepare and execute our first CAP day. The role of being a leader today was very important because it was our first day in our project. A couple of us leaders were anxious due to the fact that there were a lot of unknowns about the CAP project itself. We started off stressed this morning because of the CAP project and also because we stepped out of our comfort zone. Despite the start, we overcame many obstacles like the weather, the walk, and the schedule of the day. Thankfully we worked together to motivate everybody to come together as a team and complete the tasks given to us today!

We’re looking forward to learning more about Environmental Justice tomorrow after our hike, as 2 more CAP Day Projects.

Big Love!

This is Jackson, Jocelyn, and Reny signing out!
