Hola Families,
Today, we started at 7:30 am! We started the day off with warm weather and for breakfast at 8:00 am. We had scrambled eggs, toast, lemonade, and peanut butter/butter on the side. After breakfast, we had a mental warm-up where we played a hand-clapping game that is popular in the Dominican Republic. At 9:30 am, we visited the head of Multiuso Cultural and he explained his mission to help people in need from kids to the elderly. At 11:30 am, we went back to hotel Dilenia and had some free time making bracelets and reading before lunch! At 12 pm we had chicken, rice, and salad which was very yummy. After lunch, we had our CAP seminar, which is our community action project. As a team, we created an action plan to help a community in Constanza. After our CAP seminar, we took digital evaluations as our activity for the day! This was a nice way to give negative and positive feedback. After the evaluations, we took a little free time to just chill and hang out with our peers, what we consider free time. During our free time, the amazing Bernado Pastino offered us to come to his restaurant and treat us to a drink of fresh strawberry juice and of course, we took him up on that. As expected, it was DELICIOUS! Not only did he have juice for us, but he also had yummy cookies too. After that nice little refreshing snack, we went to a basketball court to watch a game which included both global glimpsers and locals!! Shortly after, we went back to Dilenia to enjoy a tasty 4th of July meal (hamburgers, fries, and fresh fruits). We finished the night off with our nightly seminar as always and some karaoke!

Thank you for the update. Sounds like a busy day. What are some of the favorite karaoke songs? Sounds like everyone is staying well fed.
Nevin, I miss you. But I’m happy that you’re out there having a great time and learning. Finn commented on one of the other blog posts. Check it out. Stay safe!

This is one Fourth of July y’all will remember forever! Love all the videos of the gang in action. Makes me want to get up and join in–if I could clap and jump without my crutches, walker, cane, chair, etc. Those fruit drinks and fresh-fruit snacks sound scrumptious! Sad to think your first week there has flown by so fast, but you have already had experiences and made memories to last a lifetime.

What an experience! A bunch of lucky kids! Felix, our son, didn’t miss anything at home. We celebrated the 4th by going to the grocery store and helping Oscar, our dog, survive the fireworks. I have no doubt the DR will always hold a special place in their consciousnesses. Wonderful to connect so deeply with a town not full of tourists.
