Day 5 – Sustainability – Pablo + Kadince

Hi families!!

Today we woke up at a beautiful hotel right by the beach. The night before, we got to choose what we wanted for breakfast. Our options were the Americano (coffee, milk, or juice with eggs, bacon, and pancakes or toast), the Dominicano (papaya, salami, cheese, and your choice of juice, milk, or coffee), the Continental (coffee, milk, or juice with eggs and pancakes or toast), or ham and cheese with fruit.

After breakfast, we went back to our rooms to clean up and finish packing before heading out. Around 9:10 am, we started our three-hour bus ride, which included lots of winding roads and nonstop honking. We made one bathroom stop halfway through the drive, and before we knew it, we were back at our Airbnb.

Not long after arriving, we got ready to visit a partner organization that works with students with disabilities. The organization taught us about the history of the school, how it got started, and the impact it has had on the community. Hearing their story helped us better understand why schools like this are so important. It was eye-opening to learn about the challenges many students with special needs have faced and how this school provides them with opportunities they may not have had otherwise.

After our visit, we all agreed that a snack run was needed. We headed back to the Airbnb with our bags full of snacks and spent some time relaxing. Once everyone was settled, we talked about our CAP project and went over what we would be doing the next day so everyone knew what to expect.

When dinner rolled around, we all came together. We had mashed potatoes, yuca (which is kind of like a yam), cheese, sunny-side-up eggs, beans and rice, along with water and juice to drink. With our stomachs full, we wrapped up the night with our nightly meeting, where we talked through the schedule for tomorrow and made sure everyone was on the same page before calling it a night.
