Day 1- We made it to Panama

Hi everyone!!!!! It’s Zohra, Alison, and Ryli! Today was Sustainability Day, meaning we learned about sustainable living, why it’s important, and it’s impact on communities.
First, we woke up in Sosua, where we spent our beach day. We were running around waking everyone up and even accidentally woke up some other visitors (who were not a part of our group…. whoops!). After eating breakfast, we got on the bus to head back to the villas. It was a tiring and long four hours, but it got us where we needed to go. We ended up stopping at a local shop to get snacks and food and re–energize.
Once we got back to the villa, we went straight to lunch due to a bit of a late arrival. We had some delicious rice with meat, tomato salad, and juice. Quickly after, we all got ready for our trip to Los Embasadores, the community where we will be completing our Community Action Project. We spoke to some of the community leaders about what their foundation, Alegria Inocente, does. We learned that they work to provide resources and instill sustainable living into communities in need. We walked around and got to view a couple of the houses that we will be helping install cement floors into.
Being in this community was really enlightening and gave us a first hand perspective on what and who we will be working with. We are extremely excited to be a part of the CAP and help make a difference for those who need it. It was a very eye opening experience, reminding us to be grateful and thankful for what we have.
After we walked around and viewed the community, we came back to the villa and played some games as a group. First, we played a game called Evolution, then Mafia, and then Conductor. It was really fun to get to know each other better and bond. Afterwards we played some basketball, pool, and hung out outside. We even saw some snails (Zohra says ew, Ryli and Alison think otherwise…)
To end the day off, we ate breakfast for dinner, went to nightly meeting, and passed the torch (a wrist watch lol) to the next Leaders of the Day!

It sounds like Sustainability Day was both educational and inspiring, especially your visit to Los Embasadores and the opportunity to meet the community members from Alegría Inocente you’ll be working alongside.
It’s wonderful to see the compassion, empathy, and gratitude you’re showing as you learn about the community and the impact you’re making.
I also love that after such an inspiring day
you found time to laugh, play games, bond, and make memories together (even if there’s still a debate about those snails! 😂).

What a great update! Sounding the alarm a little too early at the hotel is definitely a memory you all won’t forget anytime soon. I’m sure the other guests won’t forget either! 🤣
