On Friday August 14th, the JA1E Global Glimpsers took an early morning to head out to Sosua, where they arrived at a Church. When we arrived we met with the Kerolle Initiative for Community Health, and learned how the Doctor gives back to these Haitian communities. His goal was to help support the people by giving them back resources that they are in need of. This has a huge impact on the poorest Haitian communities living in the DR, but not only did it have an impact on them, but it also allowed us to realize that we can also give back to the communities. Not only are they scared of not having resources, but also the fear of being taken by immigration comes to mind. At the Church the Glimpers made a huge impact on the community where they were able to interact with children, ask and answer questions, and see some beautiful jewelry that were hand made by the woman in the community. But more importantly we saw how the community is impacted by being a Haitian living in the Dominican Republic, due to the immigration circumstances, these people live in poor conditions.m impacted Due to the circumstances these children and families are living through poor conditions, and so we were able to bring some impact by participating both emotionally and physically.
We brought a human to human interaction, and introduced how cultural inequality doesn’t make us any different. After the Church we then headed out to eat lunch made by the community members. We were able to eat some chicken, white rice, plantains, beans, pasta salad, and salad.
Afterwards, we headed out to our hotel where we would get ready for both the pool and the beach (we had a blast). The beach water was crystal clear and was the perfect temperature. Everyone swam and a few even learned how to float with the help of the Glimpers. The hot sun was beating down on us, so when we heard the bell ringing, we all got excited and bought a cool sweet treat. This afternoon was the rest we needed to get ready for our Community Action Project days coming up.
When we returned from the beach we had some time to get ready before dinner, and around 8pm we came down and had a dinner of our choice. For dinner most people received a burger and fries, but some got pasta and chicken wings. We ended this ecstatic night with Karaoke within the group and headed to bed around 10pm. – Melissa and Kyanni
