Day 5: community action project

Everyone was soooooooo super duper hyped and excited to get up early at 6:30 in the morning. We dreamt about shoveling mud. Our dreams came true today. For breakfast the glimpsers ingested gallo pinto with scrambled eggs and plantains. We then grabbed our shovels and marched 30 minutes through thick fog and blood and sweat and happy tears to reach the worksite where we would spend the day digging the first 100 meters of a 300 meter long trench for water pipes. Our “exhilarating” efforts will continue over the next few days. For three hours the glimpsers happily dug through mud and dirt and rocks and weeds and stones and more dirt and more mud. They took a brief break in between to snack on some crispy crunchy crackers. For lunch at the worksite, we brought and devoured sandwiches that the chefs kindheartedly prepared for us. After lunch we just could not wait to jump into the trenches and continue shoveling. However they got distracted playing catch with mud balls and making mud snowmen and soooooooooo many more mud-filled memories. I personally took a nap in the trench. My clothes have many mud on them. Back at base camp tragedy struck as the glimpsers hit the only good ping pong ball out the window and into the gutter. At 6 we ate delectable canelones which are like giant ravioli thingies filled with ground beef, salad, rice, and drank blackberry juice for dinner. The glimpsers are absolutely exuberated to continue shoveling mud and dirt and rocks and stones and weed tomorrow.
