Day 5 – Cap Execution Day 1! (Noah & Tyson)

Hello, this is Tyson. I was the leader for Day 5 of the trip. On the other days, I knew what was expected of me as a leader, so I wasn’t too nervous about it. The most nerve-wracking part was doing the wake-up calls and lights out. I felt a little bad about knocking on everyone’s door and waking them up at 6:30.

For breakfast, we ate toast with scrambled eggs and strawberry juice. We quickly traveled to Mujeres del Manglar (stopped to buy zip ties and bags for soil) to start day 1 of our community action project. When we got there, the top part of the mesh was already wrapped,d so our job was to secure the mesh with zip ties. At first it was a little difficult because only taller people could reach up to tie. But eventually everyone was able to tie at least once. 

The next part of our project was wrapping chicken wire around the tree nursery. It took almost everyone to hold it down while one of the adults hammered nails into the posts. After lunch, we took turns shoveling and sifting through soil. After creating 3 wheelbarrows of soil, we mixed fertilizer. Finally, everyone was able to plant 9 trees in the nursery with the soil we mixed.

During free time today,oday I went to the Mini Mart to get some BBQ chips. Then we headed over to CaroBakery. There I bought chocolates and a red velvet cake. While I was there, Nathan bought cookies, Medhi bough hawaiian buns and tiramisu, and Isaac ate a Dubai chocolate brownie.

Hi, this is Noah, and today has been a fun but hard day. I had to wake up early in the morning with Tyson and knock on everyone else’s door to wake them up. It was hard at first because I went to bed pretty late last night, but I was able to get some rest on the bus and grind out the rest of the day.

After some scrambled eggs and toast, we hopped on the bus to buy supplies, then went to help the natives with the Community Action Project. Their goal was to replant a bunch of trees and flowers because some natives cut them down for firewood and other things. Without the trees, habitats were shrinking, and animals were losing their homes.

We first helped with building the nursery, then sifted dirt and mixed in some dried rice to make fertilizer. We put the dirt in small bags and filled those bags with 3 seeds each. This took some time,e but since we didn’t have all the bags that the group wanted, we finished what we could by the end. After we got back on the bus and headed back to the hotel.

We were given 2 hours of free time to explore Chitre, so first we went shopping a little. Then, we headed to Pio Pio, which is like a cheaper KFC. The food was good, but we were running out of time, so we headed back to the hotel.
