Overview:
Today Devin and I got up at 5:30 to get ready and wake all the glimpsers at 6:30. At 7:00, we ate breakfast as a group where we enjoyed French toast, scrambled eggs with sausages, pineapple, and orange juice.
We ended breakfast around 7:40 to the glimpsers time to prepare to leave for Tortugas Pedasi at 8:00. After the bus ride, we first arrived at the Centro De Visitantes where we walked around a museum filled with tradition and cultures of Las Tablas. After enjoying the exhibit, we headed upstairs to listen to the owner about Tortugas Pedasi to give us an inside look on how turtles in the local community and globally are affected by climate change and waste in the ocean. After his presentation, we asked questions to get a deeper understanding of why he was so passionate about nature and saving turtles. Devin then gave him a heartfelt appreciation speech on behalf of the Global Glimpse group.

Our next step was supposed to go help the turtles by doing a beach clean up, however the weather had other plans and it began to rain. So, Jacinto Rodriguez cancelled it and instead guided us to see the mangrove which is an impactful plant because it is a good pollinator, provides a healthy coastal ecosystem, and provides habitat for marine life. At the mangrove we took pictures while it rained and enjoyed the mangrove river. After 30 minutes we started to head back to the villa where we rested and prepared for lunch at 1:00.

For lunch we were replenished by sopa de pollo (chicken soup), arroz blanco (white rice) y ponche de frutas (fruit punch). Once everyone finished eating, Johan and I guided the group to say thanks to our amazing cooks Ilka, Leonela, and Carolina. After lunch, we had free time from 2:00 to 4:30 where some glimpsers used their time to go out as a group without leaders to go shopping nearby. After coming back, we wrote letters of appreciation to our Global Glimpse supporters and went to dinner to eat fish or chicken with rice.

After dinner, we had our nightly meeting where we reflected on the question of the day: “What is biocultural diversity, and why should we care?” The group came to a consensus that we care because the nature and cycle of life is vital to every one’s day to day. We then concluded the day and passed on the torches to Michael, Eli, and Marco to be the Leaders for the upcoming day.
