Day 5: Biocultural Diversity

Hola familias y futuros Global Glimpsers!

Somos Rebecca, Eason, y Brandon, tus LDD’s.

Okay enough of the Spanish. Today, we woke 7am (what a treat!!!). We ate breakfast at our hotel, Villa Tablena. We ate fried dough, pinapple and papaya for fruit, chicken sausage, and eggs. So yummy!!! Gracias Ilka y Leonela! After that our GGL’s gave us our mandatory health check in the morning to make sure we are healthy and mentally okay.

We then made our way to our private trip with our fellow GG’s. On our way there we saw so many beautiful animals (ie. Cows, Horses, dogs, etc) We went to learn about an organization called “Save the Turtles” in Playa Venao. On the way there we were given an short introduction to the program and how they work. Program coordinators, Alexandra y Eimy went into such great depth about their work saving the turtles, why it’s so important to them and how we too can help endangered species despite being city kids. There space was so welcoming and easy to learn. We meditated and we were given a tour of their work grounds.

Then we came back from our wonderful outing for lunch. We had a well-cooked beef potato sauce paired with rice with salad on the side and sweet watermelon juice. After that we went into free-time, some chose to stay at the hotel and hung out in the pool, while others decided to go out with our PC Maykeld to suprise birthday shopping for Brandon! We bought a cake and some gifts. Then they came back and set up the suprise while he was still in the pool. We then had our self reflection where we dug deep into Biocultural Diversity and how the balance between keeping our enviorment sustainable and maintaining the culture, not only here in Las Tablas Panama but also in our own home countries and towns.

After this Ilka and Leonela prepared another wonderful meal. We were given jugo de maracuya (passionfruit juice), fries, chicken and a side of side of salad. It was after this that we presented our birthday suprise to Brandon with a nice big cake and lots of singing. He was SO HAPPYYYYYYYY!!!!!

We finally ended our day with nightly meeting and blog writing (which we are doing right now lol). Buenas Noches Familias! (Good night families!)
