Day 5- biocultural diversity

Hello friends and family!

As today’s líder del día (LDD), Gaby and Adelynn, we had the opportunity to lead our lovely group of Glimpsers as we traveled to Playa Venao. Playa Venao is home to various species of sea turtles. The group “Save the Turtles” presented us their mission as a group of volunteers dedicated to conserving and protecting the turtles here in Panama. Our passionate representatives, Eimy and Alexandra, taught us the process of handling the turtle eggs, along with the challenges they face due to climate change and human disruption.

After many naps and a karaoke session on the bus, we arrived back at Hotel Piamonte, where we ate rice, pasta salad, and chicken for lunch. Following that, we discussed and planned for our Community Action Project (the next three days of blogs will tell you all about it!) and drafted a design for our work with Pro Eco Azuero. Our next few days will be filled with beach clean ups, refurbishments, and creating memories together.

After deciding on the designs and materials, a handful of us headed to the department store to pick up the supplies necessary for our project, and the others enjoyed each other’s company. On the way to the store, we ran into other Glimpsers from a different group. Needless to say, regardless of how we spent our free time, we all have grown closer together as a group, and we are looking forward to bonding while we work on our Community Action Project.

To cap the night, we devoured our chicken wings with fries after a very informative day. We then passed the torch to tomorrow’s LDD’s, Madeline, Kaleah, and Cielo. They presented us with a Japanese name writing session, a mind reading magic trick, and a beautiful performance of the song “Hasta la Raiz” respectively. With a long day ahead of us tomorrow we’ll be sure to get lots of rest.

Signing off,

Gabrielle Lee and Adelynn Le
