Heyyyy, its your girls Kira, Alexandra, and Claudia, we were today’s group leaders and we were able to bond over our roles and responsibilities.
We started the day at 6:30 in the morning, getting ready to wake up the rest of the group. Everyone woke up at 7:00 and went down to eat breakfast at 8:00.
We left our hotel at 9:00 am to go to NutreHugar. On our bus ride over we read some facts and general context about where we were going and how malnutrition is a serious problem in Panama. Once at NutreHugar, we met Mariquel, who was the adminsrator there. She told us about their mission.

This organization, Nutrehugar, focues on recovering kids from 0-5 years old of mulnitrition. Some kids stay up to 6-8 months in the building and then send them back to their parentts once they’re fully healed. Then they do a follow up to make sure the children can live a sustainble life.

We toured the facility and we enjoyed playing with the kids and they’re toys . Then we asked what problems they had in NutreHugar. They said needed donations ,staff, medical, etc. To play our part in our time here in Panama, we were asked to paint murals. Today we started developing and desining each door. We were in 5 groups, and each group had a specific theme. One example is animals , where the mural will show various animals with their Spanish language name. It helps the kids develop their speach while they are there.

After we got back to our hotel, we packed all of our stuff and headed to another hotel that was 5 minnutes away. Our new hotel has a pool where people are currently cooling off!! After a seminar we had some free time where some members of our group people went walking to a thrift store and bought some new outfits.

We ate dinner in our new hotel: chicken, plantain and salad. We handed the ‘torches’ off to three new leaders of the day who we can’t wait to see shine!!

Okayy goodbyee- from Kira, Claudia and Alexandra

It’s sad that these precious children have had to face malnutrition. I’m glad that you’re able to help them in their recovery with art and love.
