Today is June 7 and Miles and I (Henry) are the LDDs.
The morning started like any other morning: an early wake-up and a delicious breakfast. We had mental warm-up on our way to our first stop of the day. When we arrived to our location, Sonido del Yaque, we had a small walk down to the community which included a beautiful scenery using a flight of stairs. The first thing that we did was help clean up different areas of the community which included clearning up the leaves, sweeping and had conversations with the community members. We had some great coffee. We witnessed a heated wheelie competition, and shared our favorite music artist, Nettspend, with an elder love shared out love of his music. We also who asked a lot of questions about his personal life and learned about his story. We had a delicious lunch which included stewed chicken, rice, habichuelas, and soda. After lunch we played a huge game of tag with the children. Towards the end of our game, it began to rain. so we all ran to shelter. This gave us a better opportunity to connect with the children. We left after the rain stopped and a took a group photo on the roof of one of the founder of the Sonida del Yaque, Ivelise. We took another bus ride to the community we will be service through our Community Action Project (CAP) and learned a little more about what we will be doing. We learned about the organization who we will be working with. We we got back to the villa, we made a group trip to the local ice cream parlor. We sat around, eating ice and enjoying our new friends and watching the motorcyles drive by. For dinner, we had a little taste of home with some fried chicken and french fries. Miles and I started the monthly meeting with our question and quote of the day, we got to hear feedback with the plus and wishes (the feedback was overall positive) and we got to see a dance routine with the new upcoming LDDs by Sicily and Malin. We found their talent impressive enough to pass the torch. We got a sneak peak of the next day. Details to come later…..Overall, everyone had a great day and we bonded as a community and we are ready for bed.
Much love,
Henry & Miles
