Day 3! Empanada Family day by Eduardo, Luke, and Vinnie

Hello families!

This post was written by the first Leaders of the Day. Today we woke up early to have breakfast. Then we went down the mountain to bring the necessary ingredients we needed in order to make empanadas with some of the local families. We split into three different groups led by Vinnie, Luke, and Eduardo. Even though each group met a separate family and not everyone spoke Spanish, we all experieced the same kindness and left with the same feeling love. The language barrier couldn’t stop us from having an amazing time.

From my group (Eduardo’s group), we had so much fun with our host family and a new family (our Global Glimpse family) being around with cooking with and just playing around with the dogs Macha and Gordo. Seeing all the fruit and wild animals was so cool. Another awesome part was when Johanna showed us her HAND MADE BAGS with airplane seats. My favorite part was walking back to our base house and talking during the sunset talking about life and what we will do later.

Luke here. We met with Doña Carmen. She told us about her life, her family, and her love of bingo. Like, she really loves bingo. She has her own bingo set. We played so much bingo wih her because she wanted everyone to win at least one time. She reminded me a lot of my grandma. Carmen’s food was also so good, and we left stuffed. She taught us to make empanadas with the famous cheese of Turrialba. One thing we couldn’t explain to her is why teenagers don’t like to eat that much salad.

Hello Everyone!!! It’s me, Vinnie. Today we had an amazing day visiting these families that welcomed us into their home + kitchen where we created the most bombalicious food ever!! Muchisimas gracias por la hospitalidad de las familias de hoy y por hacer nuestro dia 10x mejor. Not only did we get to cook some tasty empanadas and season other foods like pescado, but we also danced to whatever came up on the radio while we enjoyed eachother’s company. We also got to learn more about how the local people in Turrialba live their day to day. I am so excited for the next few days to come, everyone is growing closer with each interaction and activity, I can’t wait to see where our Costa Rica journey takes us in the following days!

Something we talked about is how we are having to get out of our usual environment. First, the climate and . Second, the culture. It’s been a really good experience getting out of our comfort zone.

While we all are having a blast here in Vistas Turrialba, we miss you tons!
