Day 3: Culture Day

Unfortunately, we tried to post a blog for our first full day, but there was some technical difficulties and it did not upload or save 🙁 I apologize, but we have fantastic blog posts coming your way! First up is Krishika and Paul, out firsts leaders of the day! We specifically chose them to start us off due to their vibrant personalities and drive to take initiative, hear about their day below! – Julia, one of your Program Coordinators.

We started our day by eating breakfast as a group and going over our plan for the day. We then took a bus to Gatos’s house, where we learned how to make sculptures using clay. These sculptures were our own, but inspired by Taino gods and will be placed in middle school classrooms in the area. We had a lot of fun in our groups with each designing a unique statue about 2 feet tall. Next, we headed back to our villas for lunch, playing a round of impostor with most of the group during the bus ride. After we enjoyed our lunch of spring rice, chicken, and salad, we had our first mental warm up in groups of 5 before playing three community-building games: screaming toad, human knot, and blobs. We then headed back into town for our next activity, continuing our previous game of imposer on the way. We went to Paul Rosado’s dance studio who taught different forms of dance such as bachata, meringue, zumba, and salsa, after an hour of dance the bus picked up the group to take us to a multi-purpose store where we bought souvenirs. On our way back to the villa, we were making jokes and got the entire bus laughing. At the villas, we spent some time in the pool before being kicked out by the angry thunder gods who didn’t have enough nerve to actually summon the lighting ones. We moved to playing other games outside, such as billiards, basketball, and foursquare. After a dinner of eggs, fired cheese, mashed potatoes, and salami, we had our nightly meeting where we looked back over our day and answered our daily question. We then finished the night with a massive game of mafia, in which Mr. Agular was the impostor and almost successfully won. We then headed off to bed, tired from the long day, but happy and excited to see what was next to come.
