Day 3: Culture and Work Like a Local!

Hello, these are your, “Liders Del Dia,” Jacob and Avery! Today, we had a very enriching day starting with adorable goats and planting morera, otherwise known as a mulberry plant for the goats at Finca El Espinal. Tnere, we met the owner of the goat farm, Hugo. There was only one macho, or male goat, at the farm and because he was from a partnership, he did not have a name, so Hugo let us name him. By unanimous vote, the macho goat at Finca El Espinal is now named LeBron. Then, we headed back to our hotel for some seminars and lunch! We learned about sustainability and what our CAP (Community Action Project) will be for our trip. After that, we turned back in for games of charades, naps, hangouts, and books. Then, we headed out into the city to explore Las Tablas in its festival season. We had a photoshoot at Iglesia Santa Librada, a local church, then headed to get some delicious, homemade ice cream at La Paulina. Before shopping at the local markets and supermarket, we enjoyed some baked treats at Carolina Gourmet. Afterwards, we went back to the hotel and had some pasta bolognese dinner made by our lovely staff at Piamonte. Finally we had our nightly meeting, where we had lots of big love and appreciation for our fellow glimpsers, GG leaders, and program coordinators before turning into bed.

Hey, guys this is Jacob. Some interesting things my peers and I learned about today were sustainable farming and local customs festivals. Being “Lider Del Dia” was a quite a unique and valuable expirience. I, for one, learned tons about what it means to be a leader. One spefiic thing I learned is that a leader is not always the one who speaks first or the most often, but a leader who always does their best to facilliate the good in everyone. I learned alot about myself by continuing to cultivate confidance, flexibililty and patience. One thing about the group today that made me proud was how my group was willing to go outside of their comfort zone and experience new things without complaint.

Overall, we had a fun day, filled with new knowledge and experiences, one that we will remember for a long, long time. We will certainly apply these newfound perspectives into our lives!

LOVE. THIS. BLOG. WOW.

I feel like I was right there with y’all!! Shout out to LeBron – officially apart of the delegation! Gotta make sure he gets a link to our Bring It Home Workshop later this summer. Photoshoots and ice cream are a phenomenal way to spend a day in Panama!

Jacob – I truly appreciate your reflection on what it means to be a leader. The impacts matter just as much as the methods, and being able to recognize that now will be a strength you can take with you for years to come.

Incredible work today LDDs and all of LT2C! Can’t wait to see what the day brings.

I know your parents are gonna LOVE to be able to hear from you all!
