Day 6. Working Like a Local

The day started at 6 a.m., when students opened their eyes to a brand new day of Panamanian culture. At 7 am, students ate breakfast consisting of eggs, sausages, pineapple, empanadas and fresh tamarind juice. Students then got their daily mental and health check-ins with the GGL leaders. Following studeCulturents got themselves ready for the day and started off to a pottery shop owned by a native by the name of Lucrecio. Following the painting by the artist and pottery, the students then made their way on the bus so we could head over to a bakery. At the bakery, we ate lunch with Orlando’s family, and after lunch, he gave us a tour of how he makes his cookies and cakes. After the bakery, we came back to the hotel, and the kids spend there time in the pool. After the pool, we had a seminar about CAP and what we are gonna be seeing on CAP Day 1. After the seminar, we went to get ice cream and walked around Las Tablas. We came back to the hotel to have dinner, and after we had our nightly health and mental check-in to see how we are feeling. After our check-in, we had our nightly meeting to see how the other kids enjoyed the day and pass the torch on to the next LDD members. After our meeting, we had our blog and bonding time, and then it was lights out.
Hi im Lucas, i was one of the co-leaders for today, and I really enjoyed my experience of learning the culture and the types of foods that they eat in Panama. I love how all of us are bonding; you can tell we all have a love relationship for each other and have things in common, and I also like how we all always find a way to not be bored and to interact with each other and the activities. I loved meeting the families that we met today they are very respectful and fun

Buenas Noches familias. I’m Malakai, and today I was one of the leaders of the day. Today was quite special for all of the students; however, one moment in particular stood out to me. This moment was the harmonisation of all the voices on the bus when music started to play. This moment was especially significant to me as it showed the bond we have made over the very few days, to where everyone is not nervous about expressing themselves among others even tho we have barely just met.

Sammy, guess what?! Your baby brother went into your room looking for you and laid down on your bed to play with your monkey 🥹. Shando started asking about you last night (he’ll never admit it, but we all know he misses you 🤭). Isa has basically taken the week off work and has been on a mission to catch up on movies.
Okay, Global Glimpsers, keep having fun, learning, and making memories! These updates just keep getting better. Even though I’m not there, reading these posts makes me feel like I’m experiencing the journey right with all of you. They’ve honestly become the highlight of my day 🥰

As a parent, I’d love to see even more photos of the students exploring Panama’s beautiful landscapes, connecting with the local community, and experiencing the culture of Las Tablas. Those are the kinds of moments that will stay with them for a lifetime.
Just a thought: less card games, more adventures, more nature, and more unforgettable experiences. 😊
