Day 3: Community day

Hey everyone! It’s Abi, Katelyn, and Natalie coming at you live from Turrialba! We teamed up as Co-Leaders of the Day for Day 3. Back in California, we all have our own things—Katelyn is always cheering competitively and for her school, Abi is usually jamming on the guitar, and Natalie is probably baking something sweet. But today, we completely stepped out of our comfort zones together as leaders del dia.

Rain, Rain, and more rain

Honestly, waking up to pouring rain at basecamp was a little rough. Being away from our families for the first time is a massive adjustment. It is totally normal to feel a bit homesick when you are so far from home. But the second we walked into Santa Rosa, everything changed.

We split into groups to meet the local families, and the energy was immediate. Katelyn brought her energy to an intense foosball match, Abi found rhythm communicating across language barriers, and Natalie bonded with the hosts over food talk. We played Jenga, laughed until our stomachs hurt, and realized that genuine connection doesn’t need perfect Spanish.

In the afternoon, we locked in for our first Community Action Project (CAP) Seminar. We learned the “3 D’s”—Decide, Design, and Deliver. Global Glimpse isn’t about just visiting a place. It is about understanding sustainable farming, environmental justice, and collaborating directly with the community. It is so empowering to know we can make a real impact here. We wrapped up with Diego’s amazing dinner of lentil soup, rice, and salad before heading into our nightly reflection meeting.

As leader del dia, we learned how to step out of our comfort zone and lead big groups of people all while forming deeper connections with the other glimpsers.

This trip is already shifting how we see the world. We cannot wait for the next eight days!
