Day 2: Orientation Day

Hi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nancy and Annyssa here, the first Lideres del Dia (LDD’s) of the trip!!!!! We started off our morning with a nice breakfast and warm up before heading out on an open bus (which we have come to affectionately love), to Bohios Campo Anil. There we learned about how coffee was traditionally brewed in the past, how casabe and chocolate were made, and the tools they used to make it happen. We even got to try it! We then got a tour of Bohios Campo and learned more about rural Dominican life. The houses we saw were named after the ancestors of the owner, were very bright and colorful, and had part of the roof made out of dried palm leaves. The food we had for lunch was AMAZING!!!!! The locals kindly made us white rice, arroz con fideos (rice with noodles), beans, pork, chicken, fried eggplant, arepitas, salad, juice, and even dessert! Next we got to soak by the pool and played a bunch of games like Marco Polo, monkey in the middle, and even pool (billiards)!
We got back on the open bus and headed back to our home base, La Salle. Here we met a wonderful dance instructor who taught us Salsa, Merengue, and Bachata. Learning from him and getting to partner up with people was a lot of fun and everyone was very supportive. After having some free time we wrapped up the night with a group dinner of pasta, platano maduros, cinnamon bread, and salad. We had our nightly meeting right after where we reflected on the day, gave some feedback, and introduced our new LDD’s with a wonderful talent show consisting of a rap “Alexander Hamilton” and wiggling ears. You’ll be hearing from them in tomorrow’s blog!

Anyway looks very awesome!! I bet the pool was fun and it’s super cool and great that Nancy was leader so quickly and I’m totally expecting a reenactment of their talent for the talent show.
