day 2 – Panama Canal + Travel to Las Tablas

Greetings GG Families! This is Andy and Celeste, your GG Leaders. Tomorrow you will hear from our first student Liders Del Dia (LDDs) but today we are writing the blog.

We woke up at 6am in Panama City to travel to the spectacular Panama Canal. We were lucky enough to see the huge locks in action, lifting a container ship into the canal as we arrived. From a 3D movie in the IMAX theater, we learned about the history of the canal. We were impressed to learn that it was the largest engineering project ever when it was built, and it is powered almost purely by nature: water and gravity.

Everyone then got to bond on the long bus trip to Las Tablas where we checked into our home for the next 9 days: Villa Tablena. We began our seminars, appointed the first Liders Del Dia (you’ll hear from them tomorrow) and were made to feel at home by the staff here including Yaisa, the manager, and Ilka, our chef.

We have really enjoyed getting to know all the students on the trip: they are friendly, engaged, fun, and inclusive!
