Today was such a fun filled day for the whole group! The morning began early with a wake up call of 5:30am. We got ready and headed to the hotel breakfast where there were lots of food choices such as cereal, bananas, scrambled eggs, sausage, and even delicious little churros with chocolate sauce! We then departed the hotel and headed over to the Panama Canal! Seeing the Panama Canal was such a unique experience, and we were even able to see a vessel moving through the locks! The ships are only visible at certain times of day, so it was lucky that we got to see it in action! After this, the group got to watch a 3-D iMAX movie all about the history of the Panama Canal, how it was developed, and how it is used today. This sparked some great discussions over appreciating the goods we use on a daily basis, as things do not just appear for us to have or use out of nowhere.

After visiting the Panama Canal we embarked on our several hour bus journey to Las Tablas, Panama! Luckily, most of the group was able to nap through the ride and get some much needed rest. When we arrived to our accommodation in Las Tablas, students got their room assignments, and then spent the afternoon in leadership seminars, as well as having some “bonding time” where they played games with one another.

Finally, we closed out the day with a great dinner and our first nightly meeting where our first two students took over as the Leaders of the Day. Stay tuned to meet tomorrow’s leaders of the day as they will be writing the blog post tomorrow night.
All in all, the group is having a great time so far and already pushing themselves out of their comfort zones and learning so much!
