DAY 2 IN JARABACOA

Today was day two in Jarabacoa, which consisted of a historical tour of the city. We started off with a hearty breakfast of pancakes, eggs, fruit, cereal, and milk. We then headed out on our journey to the local fire station, where Glimpsers learned about the ins and outs of running a fire station.

Next, we walked to the main square and learned about the founding fathers of the Dominican Republic, where the city council meets, and how the city of Jarabacoa was developed in the mid-1900s. It was truly a historical day. Of course, we wrapped up the tour with some delicious local ice cream.

Students returned to the ranch, while Dani and I went to the cashier to exchange dollars for pesos. Glimpsers enjoyed their free time by coloring, playing dominoes, and simply relaxing.
We all enjoyed a delicious lunch prepared by Ursula and Aurelia, which featured a traditional Dominican meal: white rice, red beans, pollo guisado (stewed chicken), sweet plantains, salad, and fruit. Everyone devoured their meal.

Around 3 p.m., we went back into town and stopped by the supermarket, where Glimpsers picked up snacks and beverages. Afterwards, we visited a local souvenir shop where students had the opportunity to purchase souvenirs.

Back at the ranch, we played more games, read, or played chess until dinner. For dinner, we had fried plantains, pork chops or chicken, garlic bread, and fruit. After dinner, we relaxed until our nightly meeting, during which we reflected on the day and discussed the importance of learning and studying history.

We were treated to an incredible showcase of Ashley and Malachi’s talents, and ended the night with a super fun game of Empire and Werewolf.

The Glimpsers send their love!

Another wonderful update – thank you! You all look fantastic and the ice cream delicious. Toby – I really look forward to a full historical report about the DR and Jarabacoa… (No pressure). Thanks for the phone call and can’t wait to see pictures of you working with the cement!
Best,
