Day 2: Biodiversity

Greetings families & friends! Bere and Mr. Jones here checking in after a fun filled day!

Our day started off with a breakfast at Ojos de Rio. Glimpsers enjoyed eggs, potatoes, and sausage as they began to bond after a much needed night of rest.

After breakfast we loaded up into our fashionable pink bus and went to the Biodiversity Museum. Glimpsers had the opportunity to learn about the incredible biodiversity of Panama that they will get to see firsthand the next 10 days of the trip. Many students were intrigued by the life sized sculptures of the extinct animals – particularly the giant bear sloth which is almost the size of an elephant!

We then left Panama City and headed towards Las Tablas and took a pit stop to grab lunch at Ven &Van. Our bus ride took a couple of hours but the students seized the opportunity to nap, check the scenery or play cards.

After four and half hours we finally arrived at Hotel Piamonte in Las Tablas where we will be until Day 10 of the trip. Glimpsers then took advantage of a few hours of downtime to rest, shower, and continue to build friendships.

Our night concluded with a dinner in the hotel and our first nightly meeting. At this nightly meeting Albert Smith and Daniel Tosoc were revealed as our Lider del dias (LDDs) for tomorrow. In order to assume this role they had to demonstrate a talent to the group. Daniel astonished the group by solving a rubric cube in 18 seconds and Albert impressed everyone by doing 20 dips.

Tomorrow Albert and Daniel will be helping to guide the group through the day as we learn about the culture of Las Tablas and discover what working like a local is.
