Hi friends and family! This is Juan, Nakayla, and Sophia and we were the LDD’s for our first official full day in the Dominican Republic! As LDD’s we were given the responsibility of making sure to look out for the wellbeing of our delegation while ensuring they have fun while doing so. We started off our day by waking up the delegation sharply at 6:00am; some even woke up extra early to do yoga with our PC, Dani! After getting ready we ate breakfast, which we were initially supposed to eat on the bus, but since we woke up on time we were able to eat at our accommodation instead! Following this was a 3-hour long road trip to Puerto Plata so we could check in to our hotel and we just want to mention that the hotel we stayed in was from the 19th century and was absolutely stunning. Just a short walk away, we spent the afternoon at the beach, where we had some quality bonding time. The entire group played volleyball and Marco Polo, hung out on the shore, and some even played soccer with the locals!

After beach time we returned to our hotel and prepared to meet our guest speaker of the day, Dr. Reginald Kerolle who has left a profound impact on the communities in Haiti and the DR by providing medical help.

Later on after our free time we returned to refresh ourselves after a fun yet exhausting day. We had another delicious dinner in the hotel on the beautiful terrace overlooking the water and a breathtaking sunset. Lastly, to finish off our day we had our nightly meeting where we reflected on what we learned and experienced, and passed the torch to the LDD’s for tomorrow, Sustainable Development Day, Joy, Wenbo, and Ziani! Overall, today was super fun and amazing and we hope everyone enjoyed it!

Big love,
Juan, Sophia and Nakayla
