Day 10: Final reflection

For our final day in Las Tablas we had a wake up call at 7am! For breakfast at 8am we had delicious pancakes, sausage, and eggs, made by our lovely chef Ilka. After we ate breakfast we all gathered in the common area for our final closing reflection of the trip.

To start, we made journey maps in small groups to show our progress and what really made an impact on us during our time in Las Tablas. These maps didn’t just show our journey in Las Tablas, it included pieces of advice from local motivational speakers that we found valuable and what we learned about ourselves as growing leaders. Afterwards, we split into groups, groups one and two sat with their eyes closed as group three would listen to prompts and tap those sitting on the shoulder if they felt it applied to them(ex. tap someone who makes you smile). Each group rotated so everyone could have a chance to feel that appreciation from the rest of the students in the delegation. Then we moved on to stop, start, and continue, on sticky notes we wrote things we took away from the trip to start, stop, and continue. We had a brief discussion about what was written on the sticky notes before moving on to our final activity of the seminar. For the final activity, the LLD’s(us) facilitated a big love paper, where we showed words of appreciation towards one another by writing anonymously on papers with everyone’s name on it.

Before we departed to Panama City, we had our final lunch with IIka where we gave her a big thank you for the past ten days. Next, we loaded our suitcases on the bus and headed to Panama City where we are staying for the night so we can head to the airport early tomorrow morning. For the rest of the night at the hotel, we are having our routine schedule of dinner, nightly meeting, and bonding, before lights out. To close off the final blog post of the LT1D trip, we would like to give a huge thank you to everyone for the support they have showed us these past 10 days. The students have gained so much motivation to continue pushing through our trip from the comments that have been left by all of you for us to read. We can’t wait to head home tomorrow and we all miss our families very much as I’m sure they miss us too. We will leave you with the quote of the day we chose, which we thought was very fitting, “There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered.” -Nelson Mandela

Love the quote of the day! I’m so happy y’all were able to experience this together, so proud of everyone. Traveling with people you don’t know is a big deal on its own. Showing each other grace and appreciation is heartwarming. I hope you have a restful night and safe travels!
