My name is Savannah Lopez and I was the first LDD of the trip! Today we learned about the Dominican culture whether it came to making coffee, hot chocolate, and to even learning their culture through dance(Merengue, Salsa, Bachata). As LDD I truly got to see the other side of this as a leader and not just a glimpser. I became a a better friend, leader, and even became more confident in myself. Concluding my blog I would like to say how grateful I am for coming on this trip and I would happily do it again.
Also special shoutout to Camilla for being the best dance partner ever!
Today’s day can be summarized as owning responsibility, connecting with locals and the Dominican culture, and making enjoyable memories as a group. Being the first Lider Del Día (LDD), Savannah and I were taking on the job of not only managing and leading today, but also setting an example for the coming days and future LDDs. This job was a lot of fun, and especially sharing the responsibility with someone as capable and dedicated as Savannah helped us stay on schedule and participate in the activities successfully. My personal highlight for the day was learning about the unique process of natural coffee and chocolate making at Bohios Campo Añil and interacting with the wonderful owner with my broken-Spanish (which she really helped me with to make the conversation deeper and more meaningful.) Lastly, I am so grateful for the opportunities we got to connect with my peers. From dancing the traditional styles, swimming, and playing cards, I have had the chance to make such amazing friends. Especially, gotta give kudos to the no-phone policy! -Parth
