Cultural exchange School Day!

Today we woke up at 6:30 and had beef empanadas for breakfast at 7:30. At 8:30, we walked to a local school to do activites and play games with the students who were celebrating thier last day before thier two week summer break!🌞 The activites were prepared on day four and led by the three leaders of the day: Kelcy, Evelina, and Leo. Kelcy’s group prepared arts and crafts, while Leo and Evelinas groups prepared games like duck duck goose, red light green light, and jackpot. The children lots of fun and even hugged many of us goodbye.🥹 While there was a langauge barrier for most of us, we still managed to have a fun day and bond with the kids!

In the afternoon, we had plans to visit and tour a local cheese farm. But after lunch, a torrential downpour began, and after we couldnt leave our rooms and one even experienced a minor flood, the program coordinators decided it was too dangerous to continue with our plans for the cheese farm. 🌧️ It turned out to be the right decision as the rain worsened at the time we were expected to be there.◝(ᵔᗜᵔ)◜During the unexpected downtime, you could find us reading, sleeping, or watching the world cup with Dani, who was cheering for her home country (Argentina)!

Later, at 6 pm, we headed to Fratellis, an italian restaurant in downtown Turrialba with delicious pizza. We ate pizzas of all varieties, including chicken pesto, barbacue, margarita and ham + cheese. Later, the staff gave us a special chocolate mousse dessert to celebrate the Argentinian win in the World Cup! 💪 Afterwards, we had our nightly meeting and drifted into our second to last slumber in the villa. I’m glad you guys had fun with the little ones playing games and doing arts and crafts. I’m sorry you didn’t get to experience the cheese farm, but it sounds like it was the right call for everyone’s safety. The pizza sounded really good, and I hope you all enjoyed it! Happy 4th of July! Enjoy the rest of your trip, and we’ll see you soon.

Wow, what a day! The activities with the local school children sounded like a lot of fun. Even with a language barrier, it’s neat to see how you can bridge the gap and make connections. I hope there was lots of laughter.

While you guys are experiencing Costa Rica’s rainy season, it’s been hot and humid here (so you aren’t missing much). So sorry to hear about the minor flood snafu! I’m glad your group was adaptable and able to pivot to other activities.

I hope you enjoyed your dinner and dessert at Fratellis. I bet it feels like you’ve both been gone a long time and just arrived. We’re all going to we waiting for you, with open arms, when you arrive in Boston. Have a fabulous last full day in Costa Rica and wishing you safe, smooth travels home.
