Community & Family Day

Heyyyyyyyyyyyy, today was our first day being immersed in the Costa Rican culture! We spent time with local families. Writing this blog today are the leaders of the day, Kamille, Sade, Ivana, and Mariah.

We woke up to a fresh and rainy morning , where we had eggs, rice, banana, plátano. After our breakfast we had some fun bonding games where we were able to connect and have a nice warm up. We got split into groups where we then walked over to the local family’s houses where we experienced what it was like to be a local and immerse ourselves in their daily activities. Some things that we did was learing how to cook their cultural meals and experience ther ntatural sazón. Each of the four groups experienced a unique family dynamic and got the opportunity to understand what it means to be a part of a Costa Rican family. We experianced their warmth and coziness through their traditional flavors and language, leaving us with a memorable day we will never forget.

Each group joined together and collectively contributed to making each factor of our dish from scratch, and bonded through actively cooking, laughing, and enjoying the flavors of Costa Rica. Not only did we make food we also played some fun and collaborative games!!

We then said our sad goodbyes as we then walked back to the base house where we were also followed by a cute stray dog that stayed with us for a bit. Later we celebrated Krystalyn’s birthday!!! She had an awesome breakfast with pancakes and a huge cake at the end of the day.

Overall it was such a fun and bonding day where we learned, grew, and connected!
