Community day-Rob Goff AND Keoko Salters

Community day! To us, the most important day of the Global Glimpse trip, if not the reason the organization has been so successful. We spent time with glorious and welcoming families, so much to the point where we become a part of their family, even if it’s just for a little bit. We held chickens, made delicious food, sowed traditional Panamanian polleras, and learned how much hard work it takes to keep a local business and dream alive. Each one of these families, in the small community of Espinal, welcomed us into their lives treating us like they’ve known us for years. With their projecting love and acceptance, we reciprocated it with smiles and laughs. We’ve all had a great time with the families and what they had to teach us, even if some of us were pretty afraid from the chickens. With our experience, we were both with the families that specialized in true Panamanian delicacies. Our first impressions were that we were going to be enjoying our time inside, but we were surprised when we had to prepare the food outdoors. For instance, we had made sausages with pig intestines, filled some corn-based dough with beef to make empanadas, and filled another type of dough with beef to make carimañolas. With no surprise to us it was amazing, even though we got a little messy. All global glimpse students have their stories, but this one is ours.
