Community day

Que lo que a todos! It’s us, the Lideres Del Dia: Grace, Cesar, and Nilah!

This morning, one of our LDD’s, Nilah, woke up most of the Glimpsers with her amazing singing! Once everyone woke up, we had them choose a random card that determined where they’d be seated for breakfast. Once breakfast was over, we had our mental warm-up to learn some important information before meeting the community in Cañada de las Palmas! After the mental warm-up, we had the Glimpsers choose another card to find who’d they’d sit next to! Everyone was energized and ready to meet the Cañada de las Palmas community! During the bus ride, people had recommended music to play, sang along, and chatted with their bus buddies. But before we arrived, we took quick stop at the supermarket to buy a “few” things for the villa (bought quite a bit, really)!

We finally arrived to Cañada de las Palmas, and spoke with the community director, Ramon! Glimpsers were then split into 5 different groups, each sent to spend most of the day with a certain family in the community! They got to learn about the families backgrounds, extended family, where they worked, festivals and celebrations, and much more! A few of the groups had done chores for their respective families, and others had spent the whole day talking to the family, learning their favorite movies, foods, etc!

Next, we gathered everyone to have lunch in the community center. After we ate, everyone played games with the kids in the community, such as baseball, Leap Frog, hand games, Hot Potato, and basketball. After all these fun activities, we took a picture with the community members, and then returned to the villas!

Once we arrived, we wrote self reflections about the day we spent with the Cañada de las Palmas community! We were then allowed to have free time—which consisted of playing pool, swimming in the pool, reading, playing basketball, and chatting with our peers—before we began the group seminar that covered tomorrow’s CAP day! After the seminar, we LDDS created a very interesting seating arrangement for dinner: the Glimpsers played rock-paper-scissors against us to figure out where they’d be seated. We also had the Glimpsers arm wrestle one another and whoever won got to get their food first! These creative solutions were well received, creating lots of laughter and excitement for the remainder if the day.

Finally, we had our nightly meeting, we reflected over the day, received feedback on our leadership, and passed the torch to the next Lideres Del Dia!

We had an awesome day! Keep following along with our blogs.

Hi everyone! I loved reading about the creative ways you started the day and switched things up by having everyone choose a card or play a game to determine where to sit.
So nice to hear everyone had an opportunity to spend time with families learn and experience firsthand what daily life or tradition for them looks like.
Thank you for sharing your day with us

Alison the littles are counting down the days and said to tell you they miss you so much❤️

How great that you’re really getting to know the community and interacting with individual people! And I Love that you’re playing games we all grew up with – hot potato, leap frog… before we had computers and phones! So thankful for these blogs and pictures so we can enjoy this journey along with you! Miss you Zohra! Love you so much!

Omg this sounds like an amazing day. I’d love to wake up to singing instead of my alarm clock buzzing lbs ;-). The Leadership Team was very creative and shook up the routine. So much fun!

So glad you ALL learned a lot and had a fun time in and with the community. I also enjoyed seeing all the pics. Thank you for keeping us in the loop.

Gracie we miss you so much. Hope you’re having a fun and memorable time.

What a wonderful opportunity for the students to connect with local families and learn about their lives, traditions, and experiences. It sounds like they gained meaningful insights that go far beyond what can be learned in a classroom! What a fun filled day!
Yasleen we miss you ❤️
