Cap Execution Day 3

Today was our final Cap Day, we started off at 4:30 am, got breakfast to-go and arrived at the site at 7 am. The hike up was difficult but we persevered. We got up the hill around sixty minutes and from there got straight to work. Many of us wanted it to rain today however once we reached the planting site; we realized that today wasn’t going to resemble the first day. Overtime we realized that it was actually beneficial, with clear sky’s and a slight breeze we were actually able be more successful throughout the day planting 700 more trees and finishing 2 hours ahead of schedule. Even though we only had two CAP Days our team showed great development in our teamwork skills and communication, ultimately proving that today was a great success.

After our successful mission we celebrated with lunch at the beach, walked around, got more snacks and headed back to the villa. When we arrived we had around three hours of free time, many of us spent this time exploring the town, getting their final souvenirs, swimming in the hotel pool, and trying out the exotic Panama McDonald’s menu.

When we were back from free time, we had our last CAP reflection, and were able to take the time and realize our accomplishments’, areas of growth, and what our mission could lead too.

Overall our experience as leaders was successful, for Alexis she realized that working as team could accomplish more then any solo mission. Samara realized that to lead a team it takes a lot of will power and the confidence to not back down. Finally, Michael realized to be a leader you have to lead by example and have the flexibility to help anyone in need.

We’ll leave you all with our quote of the day “Many little people, in little places, doing little things, can change the world.” -Edward Galeano. This quote resonated with many today and was ultimately the motivation that kept us going, thanks to all our hard work we learned that we can truly change the world.
