HOLA! It’s your lideres del día, Ryan Cavallaro and Reyli Rodriguez Cruz. Today started off a little rough, we woke up at around 5:45AM so that we could wake everybody else up. We had a challanging early wake up at 6:00-6:30AM, and got everybody down at 7:40AM for breakfast.
From there I (Reyli) had to kinda lead alone so that Ryan could recover (ITS OK THO BECAUSE HES BACK!!!!!!!). We left the hotel around 9-10:30am to the C.A.P (Community Action project) site, there we would be introduced to a small town of around 150 people. During our bus ride, Jessica (Big love to her) stepped up so that I wouldn’t have to lead the group alone. After the hour long bus ride, we were introduced to Ari (A member of the U.S Peace Corps), Carlos, Luis, and other members of the Borrola Community. Borrola, as I previously mentioned, is a small mountainous town 45 minutes to an hour away from Chitré with a population of around 150 people. The town is known for Cerra Borrola (mountain) because of its important aquaphor which supplies the town with fresh water. Aris, Luis, Carlos and other community members were kind enough to show us around Borrola, they took us to see projects that the previous Glimpsers had done, but they have not been sustained. They also told us about needs that the community had and one of the most important ones was the Casa de la Comunidad (Community house), here the community has meetings disccusing needs for the community. Aris told us that the benches in the community house have been wearing down and have also been infested by termites, so our job was to create a plan and a design to help the community; so, we left Borrola with the goal of coming up with a plan to help the Borrola community. When we got back to the hotel we had lunch, met up with unstoppable cheese (Ryan’s cheese name given by King Chese AKA: Hector), and afterwards started our C.A.P 2 design phase.
At the hotel we had a meeting and discussed the priorities of the community. We came up with a plan that we could realistically execute in the following three days on our budget. Soon after we agreed on our plan, took a nice break, and presented our ideas with Aris and Luis. They guided us on our project and explained the priorities for the project and the materials we would need. Afterwards we had dinner with our new friends, Luis and Aris, and closed off the day with a brief nightly meeting.
It was super that we also had an opportunity to call our beloved families today! It was a little emotional but we found ourselves coming together and supporting eachother through the tears and joy.
Looking forward to beginning to work on our CAP project tomorrow. It really feels like the ball is rolling!
Love you, miss you. See ya inna week.
R&R signing off!
