Cap day 3! july 29

Morning:

Hello families my name is Nyla Arnwine, I go to DaVinci Science, and I was one of the leaders of the day today. Hi Mommy, Nanc, Chunck, Geo, and Shawty. Miss you and love you all! Today we all woke up and ate a nice breakfast; cereal, yogurt, and fruit. After eating breakfast we stretched and got ready to walk to our Community Action Project. The walk there is about 7 minutes, since it is uphill and it was hot today it felt a little longer. When we got there our friends were waiting for us, two little girls and one little boy. We try our best to play with them during our group rotations we play cards, Uno, and teach them popular hand games in the US. We also talk to the woman we are building the house for, Doña Nena and her neighbor Don Julio. While we are talking to them other groups are rotating, putting up walls, cutting wood manually, and nailing everything together. Don Jose (the contractor) oversees everything we do and makes sure it is perfect. Although us Glimpsers are helping, the community is also working with us which takes off a lot of pressure. It was super hot today, but the other leaders and I we reminding your loved ones to stay hydrated! After working until twelve o’clock we walked back to the hotel which is a much faster walk because everything is downhill.

Afternoon:

Hello everybody reading this, my name is Alexa Castorena I will be going over the afternoon activities we did during mid day. To continue off what Nyla finished saying, at 12pm we had lunch shortly after which consisted of rice with beans, beef, salad, and plantains. As always lunch is the best part since we just got back from working building the house for Dona Nena. We took a break until and had time sit down and talk to our friends and then we made our way to our second cap session. In this part we had to build interior walls while groups of three would alternate which would help Don Jose. Towards the end of this session we completed the walls and we all gathered together to take a group photo in the house we built, this was a bittersweet moment since we did get to help out with the process of building the house but also saying goodbye to everyone in the community which we’ve been interacting with the three days of our work. Once we said goodbye to the neighbors we headed back to the hotel to quickly get ready for our trip to DOWNTOWN!! We took the gua gua (which means bus) and we were able to go to three different stores. The first store we visited was a store full of bracelets and accessories, the second store was a supermarket. This gave us a chance to purchase snacks for the last time with a more wider variety, the last store was a Chinese store with a abundant amount of goods for a low price which was great. Then we had to return back to the hotel with a ton of bags, which was nice because we all got a chance to spend the money we exchanged during the trip. This was a great moment because we were all happy in the bus and it was a memory I personally will never forget.

Evening:

Hello families my name is America Garcia, and I was one of the leaders of the day. Hi Mom, Emma, Navy, and Luna!! After we got back from our shopping and returned to the hotel we went to the the little market down stairs of our hotel to purchase more snacks, to eat or to take home to our families. After the market we had dinner were we presented: pork chops, plantains, salami, and french fries. After the great dinner we had, we all washed our dishes and head to the room next door to have our nightly meeting. Where we did questions/quotes, rose and thorns of our CAP DAYS and lastly with wish and plus. We ended the meeting by passing on the torch on over to our last leader of this trip, where they presented us a dancing show that got everyone up and moving. We end our meeting with our traditions called unity clap to end of the night. This Friday we will be heading home (flying United), we will be at the airport around 3:00 am to head to New Jersey. After New Jersey we will have a layover and won’t get to LAX around 5:15 if they’re no layover! See you tomorrow!!
