GlobAAL! Guh-LIMPSE! It’s your LDDs, Kyra, Eze, and Isabella! We woke up bright and early, a little different than the previous days, to get ready for the activities ahead of us!
We all headed downstairs for today’s Mental Warmup where Ms.Davis taught us how to think quickly on our feet with a ball. The goal was to duck if the person next to you caught the ball, and if you didn’t duck in time, you’re out! Our whole delegation competed against each other and after 10 minutes, it was deemed that “Most Awake” was Kyra and Diggy! Once our brains were awake enough for the day, we had a very filling breakfast of pancakes, omelettes, bowls of fruit, and Panamanian oat milk! Everyone wanted seconds but unfortunately, there was not enough, but always big love to our girl Aschley (Noo Shicken!!). After an almost filling breakfast, we hopped on the bus to make our way to the last day in Borrola!
Last and final day of CAP project work time! The Eco-Bench group’s goal of the day was to make their final bench as well as finish painting the bench at the local church. The bus stop mural and the trash can barrel group’s goal was to finish their beautiful paintings. The Casa Local group’s goal was to paint “Casa Communal de Borrola” on the front of the building. Dividing and conquering for the final day, groups set off and got to work!
In our originally 3 hour (turned 4 hour) work day, some groups faced setbacks. For example, the Casa Local’s group faced the dilemma of peeling paint after they had already finished blocking in their final design. The mural’s group also took longer than expected due to having to wait for paint to dry, a result of covering previous mistakes. The barrel’s group struggled with group focus. However, with the help from members of the community like Aris, Luis, Adilio, and Ventura, we learned and pushed through and got the work done!
Some of the highlights from today’s trip to Borrola included local interactions and gift giving. The Eco-Bench group was split in half to conquer two different goals. Kyra, Diana, along with GGL Colin took on the role to finish painting the bench at the local church. A neighbor of the church came over to see what we were doing. She introduced herself as Guadalupe and asked if she could do anything to help us out. We told her that she could help paint the leaves in the flowers, and we got to know her as we all painted. Also as LDDs, we presented a ceramic plate and a keychain to Luis and the community as well as Aris with a few words of gratitude for welcoming us to their community and for all their support on all of our projects. A couple Glimpsers received a ceramic gift from a local named Juan, for their amazing work in translating for their fellow Glimpsers. Sophie also donated pencils and colored pencils to the students and school of Borrola.
We got to lunch later than scheduled but had a yummy meal of rice, cinnamon brown sugar plantain, chicken soup, and passionfruit juice. After lunch, the whole group along with PC Mateo took a scenic route of the highway to the local shopping mall. Groups split up for an hour to buy snacks and souvenirs, pizza, and ice cream.
We later gathered to reflect about our CAP experience. We had time to reflect individually and then shared with partners and the whole group. We were able to discuss positive and constructive reflection on strengths, issues, outcomes, and what we learned throughout the past 3 days. Many said that they were proud that they were able to overcome their setbacks throughout the process. Many also said that they were pushed out of their comfort zones and were glad to have the opportunity to learn new things. We also were able to draft our letters of appreciation to the numerous supporters of Global Glimpse.
For dinner, we had the fan-favorite chow mein, rice, and chicken. We also added a new addition to our delegation, 3 year old Valentina! Javier was able to donate elementary-aged bilingual books to her. We passed the torch to tomorrow’s LDDs, Emily and Celia, after they showed off their flexibility by doing cartwheels and the splits. And like every night before, we ended the day hanging out on the balcony talking about mid-life crisises and playing card games. 3 more days to go!!!
Goodnight everyone! We had an eventful and great day, and we hope you had one too! See you tomorrow!
