CAP Day 3

Hello everyone, this is Loveleen and Ericka your LDD’s of the day. Today was our third and final CAP (community action project) day.

We all woke up at 7:00 am, and started our day off with the breakfast of champions (carbs and sugar). We arrived to the CAP site around 9am, since we had finished deconstructing the home and evening out the foundation as well as creating holes for the foundation, we began by picking up trash, in the surrounding area as we waited for the paint and brushes for the second part of our CAP (repainting a basketball court) to arrive. After we cleared the surrounding area of any garbage, our innovative glimpsers began playing limbo and jump rope with the kids of neighborhood using a piece of rope they found, also taking bottle caps and playing catch with them, I guess ones mans trash truly is another mans treasure.

Once the painting materials arrived we straight to work, and assigned everyone is 3 groups of 6 in which 1 group taped lines onto the court, 1 group began painting the court, and the other waited to be switched in. With this system we were able to finish painting half of the court before lunchtime began, with the help of children of the neighborhood. Around 1:00 pm we boarded our bus to return to our accommodation where we had a delicious vegetable, chicken, and pork lasagna as well as a cheesy pesto pasta. After lunch, we returned to the court, with the goal of finishing by 3:40 pm, and with drive of the glimpsers and the support of the surrounding community, we were able to fulfill our goal and finish within the desired time.

After finishing we went to the 2 local supermarkets, where our glimpsers had the opportunity to purchase souvenirs, and snacks. Once we returned to our villas with our ice creams and souvenirs, everyone freshened up, and scrubbed off the day’s hard work. Our group headed to the gazebo where we all had a self reflection where we discussed our strengths and areas of growth that took place throughout our 3 days of CAP delivery.

For dinner we had hamburgers with fries (those who were vegetarian were very pleased). Our GGL’s and PC’s surprised us with a change of scenery for our nightly meetings from our usual seminar room to a bonfire in the fields. Where we passed the torch to tomorrow’s LDD’s Arsenio and Nilanjan. After they demonstrated their amazing talents, with Arsenio showing us his skills as a outfielder, and Nilanjan displayed his extensive knowledge of geography. When our nightly meeting concluded, we all stood by bonfire and roasted marshmallows. Ending our amazing day on sweet note… pun intended 😉 .

Overall it was a very productive day and we were able to end our Community Action Project on a positive note, leaving a lasting impact on the community and closing our CAP with an everlasting impact on our lives as well.
