Cap Day 3

Hello GG community! We are Benny, Lukas and Olivia – the student leaders of the day.

This morning, we woke up bright and early at 4:15 am for the final day of our Community Action Project. Today was by far the longest and most exhuasting day of CAP so far. When we got to the site, we were responsible for carrying large crates full of saplings and taking them across the creek and up a tall hill. Due to this, we got a later start on our planting than the previous 2 days. Athough it was tiring, we managed to plants hundreds more than the days before. The heat was grueling but 2010’s pop music got us through it. After hours of labor, we enjoyed our lunch of grilled chicken and potato salad, cooked by a local Panamanian family. After our lunch, we drove the hour and a half back to the hotel to relax and play board games with friends before we made our final call home. Then, we dressed up for a special dinner to celebrate all of the hard work we put in the last few days for reforestation. Dinner was at a nearby resturaunt, a quick walk awy from the hotel. We had our choice of our entre and dessert. The food was fantastic! We had many great conversations around the table, filled with laughter and excitement. When we finished eating, we made our way back to the hotel for our nightly meeting where we crowned the new leaders of the day. Their talent impressed us all. At the meetings close, many of us went straight to bed since we were drained from all the work and early wake ups.

This project taught us that we must get our hands dirty to prove our dedication to our word in making a better place. As novelist Paulo Coelho says, “The world is changed by your example, not by your opinion.” Although we’re having fun, we can’t wait to see you all soon on Sunday with many new stories to tell.
