Hey, its Riley and Kanya!

We had an exciting surprise last night when we were invited by a Dominican Republic student summer camp to their Hawaiian-themed closing party as a last farewell. Over the past week we’ve played sports and interacted with the Dominican students here. During the party, we danced our hearts out and got to know the kids better which, for many, was a highlight of each day.
Today was the last day of our Community Action Project!

Today, we woke up bright and early to a delicious breakfast and made our way to the community where we would be starting to work on our fourth house (our biggest house yet!). Similar to past days, we took turns mixing concrete, passing buckets, and cheering each other on. Many of us took our break time to connect with the locals, especially the children who were all very playful. Special shout-out to Noah, Alex, and Gerrardo, for their hard work pushing a wheelbarrow of sand up and down a steep hill. Without their help, it would have taken us a lot longer.

After a triumph-filled three hours of work, we returned to our accommodations at Altocerro to have a chicken and vegetable lunch. We took a break, drank lots of water, and played card games until the time came around to return to work… Back at the CAP worksite we jumped back into work, and without the encouragement of our teammates the work would have been a lot more draining and difficult. However our positivity, teamwork, and fire playlist got us dancing and helped us overcome the heat and gave us stamina.

This Community Action Project has impacted our lives in many ways. We practiced the three C’s of Global Glimpse–Courage, Compassion, Commitment– through our dedication to the work, our kindness towards others, and by stepping up as leaders. We are so proud of what we have accomplished these past few days. Originally, our plan was to complete the flooring of three house, but because of our strength as a team, we were able to finish four houses in three days!
After a long day of work, we said our final goodbyes to the community and families we grew close to. After spending so much time with the kids, the hardest part was having to tell them we weren’t coming back in the morning. However, we were all satisfied with the impact we made on the community. We were able to spend some time relaxing, played cards, and spent quality time together as we approach the final days of our trip before our final journal reflection entries.

Tonight is our last night in Constanza, a place where we’ve made life-long memories and connections. This has truly been the experience of a lifetime, and we are thankful for everyone who has gotten us to this point. We are all happy and healthy, so no need to worry! We’ll see you in a couple days!
Last day of CAP, that’s a wrap!

❤️ Kanya & Riley ❤️

Kanya & Riley you accepted the torch and you rocked it! I love how you gave major props to Noah, Alex, and Gerrardo. I love how you incorporated an embraced the 3 C’s and emphasized teamwork and team support. The hardest part would have been saying by to those children who have become attached to you. Great job all of you! Of course I love you and miss you Casey see you soon.

I hope you all feel proud of yourselves as many of us do back home. A handful of Bay Area young adults, who never met, are from different backgrounds, came together in a short amount of time and helped a community in a different country. Amazing!
We love you Maya!

Shout-out to my guy Noah out here pushin’ wheelbarrows like it’s leg day on a mountain! 😂⛰️💦 If there was a medal for “Glute Gains by Sand,” you guys would be on the podium. 🥇🍑
4 houses in three days?! SMH Say Less🛠️🌎🦸🏽♂️
Also, y’all crushed it with that fire playlist cardio, construction, and a dance party in one. Now that’s how you build memories AND muscle! 🎶💃🏽🏗️
Can’t wait to welcome Noah home like the hometown heroes 🦸🏽 you all are but someone please make sure he doesn’t try to pour concrete in our backyard “just for fun.” 😂👷🏽♂️
Proud of the whole crew y’all left footprints, floors, and forever memories in Constanza! 💙
Love ❤️ Mom, Dad, & Isaiah

You did a great job over there! I’m sure!
Everyone did! Seeing you happy, sharing, helping, learning and growing makes me feel satisfied with this trip, my hope was that you learned to be a better kid that you already are and I can see that you just need a small push to grow.
I’m so happy to see you soon!
