Hey it’s the leaders Chez, Tyla, and Victoria of CAP day 2.
Today we learned what hard work and labor truly was. Today we were given many curve balls which we had to adapt to and some things did not go to plan, but we were flexible, even through our inexperience and first time doing this type of community service. We were thrown into a unpredictable situation today, which lead us to redirect everyone at multiple different stations to something totally opposite from the original plan. Our peers tenacity and resilience today were superb and quite remarkable. No complaints, just a sheer will to help the underprivileged. Being leader of the day was very commanding and eye opening. When you are not leader of the day sometimes you can lack empathy for the leader, not knowing the chaotic nature of managing an entire group and being in charge. Being leaders made us realize that we have a strong presence and it catches peoples attention. We had no problems with distractions.
Today, we woke up at 7 am and had a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs , pancakes and cereal. Then we had to head to work at the school. After 3 hours of completing the fence, painting murals, and painting the access ramps with a stencil, a lot of us were covered in paint and were ready to head back for lunch. After one of the best lunches we’ve had since we got here (rice, beef stew, fried cassava and more), we chatted and headed back to continue working. They gave us a newer variation of things to do and we had people using the pick axe and shovels to flatten the trees to get ready to install brand new trees.
So, coming to a conclusion even though the work was strenous and hard to get through, we persevered through the day and are so ready for what tomorrow throws at us. With a prepared mind we are ready to continue combating the hardships and excited to see the final results of all our hard work and the satisfied feeling we will get. We love every last one of you. Tomorrow, we will be continuing phone calls, so be ready!!!
Shout out from Victoria to Leon for hitting big 17!! So proud of you, hope you are doing good up there!! Shout out to my parents and brother, you guys better be reading this till the end..
