Student Trip Blog

Cap day 2!

Hello families, its Ariacna, Jocelyn, and Natalia, and we appreciate you for taking the time to read this blog and keeping up with us and our trip.

On June 15, 2026, the 2nd day of our Community Action Project took place. Glimpsers began their day by waking up at 7 in the morning by the Leaders of the Day and had breakfast at 8 in the morning. Around 9 in the morning students arrived at the community, Los Embasadores.

Our objective for today was to improve the conditions of another household by replacing their dirt floor with a cement floor. We began our journey by having the students carry buckets containing a mixture of sand and dirt to a location near the house. Afterwards, some Glimpsers were asked to pour bags of cement and water onto the pile of sand and dirt so they could be mixed using shovels. Simultaneously, students formed an assembly line down the slope, towards the house, where buckets of cement were passed down so the cement could be poured onto the floor and smoothed. This process was facilitated and monitored by our GGL’s( Claire and Judi) and our PC’s (Nacho, Julia, and Daniel).

Although, this work demanded heavy labor, as the Leaders of the Day we ensured that students including the adult leadership team took multiple breaks where they were able to drink water and reapply their sunscreen and bug repellent.

Students returned to the Villa where they had spaghetti with beef, and fruit for dinner made by our Chef Margarita. Sadly, her partner of work, Familia, had to return back to the army.

We ended the day by hosting the Nightly Meeting where students were able to reflect on the question of the day, How does it feel helping other? Can one person make a difference? and a quote by Martin Luther King Jr., “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is “What are you doing for others?’.” This Community Action Project allowed students to reflect on their past and present actions and enter the reality of a community through a new and humble perspective. Concluding on how they are able to align their future actions and beliefs through an empathetic approach and the importance and impact of a small action.
