CAP DAy 2

Gurt? Yo my glimpser fam! This is Mady, Samuel, and Jessiah BACK at it again with another BANGER! We started off the day at the bright and early age of 8:00am at breakfast. For the “most important meal of the day”, we had gallo pinto, fried plantains, eggs, fruit, and tortillas along with our classic breakfast-drink variety, orange juice and water.

After finishing our hearty meals, we walked over to the soccer field to continue working on the fence. Before resuming our labor, we did group stretches led by yours truly, Madeline Riray, which was then followed up with an engaging game of Red Light Green Light. After our games, we started painting the soccer fences with a magenta-red shade. This was shortly stopped because of technical difficulties with our painting. Despite this mini hiccup, the group continued painting and moved with haste in such hot, humid, moist weather. Around 11:45am, we walked back to our base home where we ate lunch. This consisted of Arroz Cantonese, various salads, and mashed beans. Once we finished up our filling meals, we all hung around exhausted but recharging for our soon-to-be continued labor.

We reached the soccer field around 1:40pm, got our paint and brushes, and went straight to town on those fences. Since we managed to paint majority of the fences red in the first half of our day, some of us continued painting with blue paint. We encountered more bugs, especially ant hills because some of these evil dirt piles were close adjacent to the fences we painted. At the end of our work hours, we had nearly reached the finish line with our painting, light blue poles and red fencing! Following the completion of cleaning up, we were given free time to stay within the field and even play soccer with some of the locals.

On the way back to our base home, we stopped by our beloved pulperia (corner store) and we bought snacks, as these treats were rightfully so deserved after all our hard, laborious work. After we arrived at base, we washed off our paint stains and got ready for our LOA Seminar. This seminar was to write letters of appreciation to our Global Glimpse supporters! Big Love to all of them!

After finishing up our generous letters, we started to tidy up for munching time or whatnot. For dinner, we had sopa de frijol blanco con arroz, which is chicken soup with white rice. Following dinner, some groups were either playing cards or watching the World Cup match – Mexico vs England. We were shortly called to our nightly meeting, passing the torch to Megan and Addie!

Although today was very physically draining, we are extremely proud of everyone for their contributions to the Community Action Project, especially el sol (the sun) for giving all of us a little tan for all of our hard work. A wise person I knew once said “Pressure makes diamonds”, and with all the labor I saw going in our project today, I KNOW we are cooking diamonds!
