Hi, this is your day’s leaders, Logan, Annabelle, and Daura!
Today was our first big Community Action Project Day (following very eventful and extremely loud karaoke last night). We all worked together to complete projects around a local school in Jarabacoa. Projects included both building and painting a fence, drawing and painting hopscotch, and sanding wood, evident in our clothes, hair, and unfortunately eyes. My other leaders and I (Annie) can all agree that we are so incredibly proud of everyone and excited to see the rest of this project over the next 2 days. We all learned so much about team work, empathy, and serving others. Successful is an understatement for today.
All of us put in a lot of hard work over the 6 hours that we had and everyone stayed active, not stepping back or allowing others to bear the brunt of labor alone. We are on track to finish all our main projects in the second work day and if we do not, I am confident that we will still continue to be well ahead of schedule. In addition to all the work that we did we also managed to very effectively support each other in a variety of ways as different issues and struggles came up. Overall today was very productive and I think that the group has all gotten some boost from what we’ve done, despite how tiring the work was.
Lastly, I would like to just say that we all have worked really hard. The difference that we’re making, and impact that we’re leaving in Jarabacoa is extremely helpful for the students and the community. We are so grateful for the privilege and opportunity to serve.
