Cap Day 1

This morning the glimpsers started with an early morning wake up call and later headed to breakfast where we all enjoyed french toast, eggs, sausage, and fresh fruit paired with the drink options of orange, iced tea, and mango. After our breakfast we all headed to a mental warm-up where we discussed important reminders for the day and the quote and question to think about throughout the day. We then walked into town where we had the opportunity to meet with the Asada of Santa Rosa made in 1981 which is the community organization that supports the water system in Santa Rosa. The staff then told us about the background of the Asada and how they came to develop the portable water system which distributes the clean water to the people of Santa Rosa.

We then hiked up towards the water tanks “los gemelos” the twins which held clean water to be distributed. The plumbers then went over what tasks we were going to do to help them maintain the water facility and water tanks. We all split into groups to perform the different tasks which included shoveling dirt to clear a car path, scrubbing the fence and pulling weeds to prepare for painting, and cleaning the tanks of dirt and debris. We all took turns rotating through the different tasks and taking breaks along the way.

We later walked to the local park for lunch where we met with Diego and his wife to eat lunch. For lunch we had mashed black beans, chicken and rice, salad, and fruit for dessert! The delicious pineapple and watermelon gave us the energy to keep doing our tasks.

After returning home for a delicious dinner of lentil soup, we met for our nightly meeting. During this nightly meeting, we had a blast playing an icebreaker game to practice everyones names and laughed together at each other’s creative dance moves. We wrapped up the night with a bonfire and smores thanks to the nice weather that we enjoyed this evening.
