CAP DAY 1

Today was an amazing day led by the LDDs Toby (Pumpkin), Paul (One of the Girlies), and Eric (Fortnite Guy).

Everybody was instructed to have their stuff ready for the day today the night before. Thus, we made sure that everybody was awake by 7am sharp. This was accomplished through the method of loud banging on doors until somebody opened the door. This was not very popular amongst our peers as we received various complaints of our actions.

After wake up, we had breakfast and hopped on the battle bus (this was Eric) to our CAP worksite at 8:45 am. Continuing on from the night before, the bus ride was entertaining due to the karaoke going on. Kudos to Eric, Andrea, and Toby for stepping up and performing solos. All three have such amazing vocals.

Upon arrival to the worksite, we were greeted by our wonderful program manager Francis, the head of the organization Alegría innocente Ramon, and two local kids of the community named Esmeralda and Paolo. We split into our designated groups of demolition, transport, weed pulling, trash pick up, and organizing Altagracia’s belongings. Throughout this difficult process, Paul guided and kept everyone on task and hydrated. Everybody showed up with a positive attitude and everyone had great group dynamics. A couple of hours later, we formed what we call “the human chain”. This was a well coordinated process of dirt transportation to help level out the foundation of the new house. BUCKET DOWN!

After a long three hours of hard work, we went back to the villas for a quick lunch. After lunch, we headed back to the house to finish taking down the rest of the structure and cleaning up the weeds around the area. Toby and Tanya had a fun time talking with another kid willing to help out named Elvis. Elvis helped out by hacking at weeds with a machete he found on the ground.

After about 2 hours of work, we returned to the villas, everybody took much needed showers, and we had our free time relaxing in the villas or just chilling outside. After free time, we wrote the rough drafts of our letter of appreciation to supporters of the Global Glimpse program, as well as to anybody else who they felt supported and inspired by. Finally, we ended the the day with a delicious dinner and our nightly meeting where Mia demonstrated her magical magic trick, in addition to Durga’s fencing lesson.

It was a great and eventful first day of our CAP (community action project), and we can’t wait to start up again tomorrow!
