Hello from Costa Rica with your favorite leaders Arlen and Jonas. Everyone was very pleased with the loud banging on their doors this morning to gently wake them up. Breakfast was eggs with rice and beans and pancakes as the main with a variety of fruits. Muy bueno.
We immediately started our walk to the CAP site right after breakfast, with a shovel in hand. It was not too far so the hike wasn’t bad and we got to see good views on the way!! 🙂 We instantly got to work after a group stretch and a good ole game of Arlen/Jonas says. We split into two groups, one worked on the dirt area and the other group dug at the clay site. Jonas and Gio went to town on the roots with the pickaxe to clear the way in the clay. The leaders didn’t forget to remind everyone to drink water and take breaks, even giving everyone cookies mid day. The work was very hard but rewarding, and we were all sweating by the end of the first shift. At 11:30, we went back to the villa for lunch which was rice with chicken and salchichas, with refried beans and salad on the side.
After lunch and a lil bit of pool, we went straight back to the site. The walk felt a lot longer on the way because we were so tired. The groups switched areas and we kept working. Everyone worked very hard and we pride ourselves on that. We also think that this experience helped us all grow closer to each other. The work is not done, but we will be back at it tomorrow.
At 3:00, back at the villa, everyone showered and chilled until around dinner. We also decided to set up a pool tournament, getting basically everyone playing in teams of two, one boy one girl. This tournament will be starting tomorrow around dinner because we unfortunately ran out of time. For dinner we had a delicious soup which contained white beans, chicken, vegetables, and rice on the side. After dinner we had our daily nightly meeting where Arlen and Jonas ran through the question and quote of the day, they also went over the rules for this pool tournament which we will all be taking very seriously. We then passed the torch to Devin, Grace, and Gio where each future LDD displayed their awesome talents. Gio showed us his awesome juggling skills, Devin can make a very weirdly loud noise out of his mouth, and Grace finished it off by showing us a super mind boggling magic trick.
After the meeting, everyone hung out around the pool table singing along to music and socializing while others headed to bed after a hard day of work.
Thank you for reading our blog, and shout out to every parent who got a call today, we all very appreciate it.
Peace out, Jonas and Arlen!!!!
