CAP DAY 1!

Hola familias!

This is Ethan and Yun, today’s Leaders of the Day!

Today marks HALFWAY point through our trip to Costa Rica! After waking up and eating a Costa Riccan brekky of gallo pinto and huevos rancheros, we headed off to the local school’s soccer field to begin our FIRST DAY of the Community Action Project (CAP). We distributed materials and got to work right away, removing lichen and scrubbing rust off the fence bordering the field. Our work was tedious but we STILL managed to push through with some extra help (snacks!) and company (dogs!).

We came back for a quick lunch at the base house before going back to the soccer field to get back to it. In addition to the jobs we started the day with, we also scrubbed the soccer goal posts clean and did some basic gardening taking out the weeds surrounding the fence. Even though we were hard at work for the whole day, we managed to still have fun playing with soap bubbles and making memories with our delegation!

After we wrapped up our first day of work, we made a quick trip to the convenience store for ice cream and other snacks to refuel. Some of us decided to take a quick dip in the pool while others decided to gather together and play card games. Then it was time for a Mid-Trip Survey to let the higher-ups know how we are enjoying our trip and any other concerns we had. Dinner was served with fried chicken and rice, paired with a usual salad.

The nightly meeting welcomed the Leaders of the Day for tommorrow, and also ended with our first KARAOKE/DANCE PARTY!! Everyone had a blast singing their hearts (and voices) out to Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, and Miley Cyrus (Party in the USA to end our Costa Riccan Fourth of July celebration). We are looking forward to many more nights like this and getting back to work on our Community Action Project.

We’ll see you soon, Ethan and Yun, signing off!!

Hi Team. You are all such great workers! Could you come and do our pool and yard area next. I’ll provide snacks.
The community is going to be so grateful for your hard work. Gracias.
And this followed by ice cream and a karaoke/dance party? Sounds perfect!
Can’t wait to read what’s next.
Truly, enjoy the time & each other. Also…leave your mark of care and kindness on these our neighbors.
Love, G’ma
