Streching before the walk

We landed in San Jose, Costa Rica, on Monday, August 10th. After a three-hour drive up, down, and up into the mountains. Students hit the ground running and settled into our home for the next 10 days. After we got settled, students began leadership training to become leaders throughout the trip – and beyond.

Coffee farm tour

Today, students delved into finding out what leadership styles they possess and will prepare to strenghen them throughout the journey. Then it was off for a walk into town and a ride on public transportation; up the mountains to a coffee farm.

Students toured a family farm operation and learned the complexities of coffee growing, harvesting, and the economics behind the drink we all might take for granted. The content learned can help students be stewards of concious consumer activity back at home.

After the tour, students hung out and had some coffee with the family.

As the night closed, students took over running the show and organizing our groups for tomorrow’s community action project; we will meet some local families and learn how to make tortillas and tamales. More to follow…..from students.
