Biodiversity & Fun day!

Today we learned about cultural biodiversity and also had our “fun day” at the beach (all the days so far have been fun though)! The leaders were Kyle and Erin, everyone woke up at 6:30 for a 7:30 breakfast of pancakes, pineapple, bacon and bologna. We left at 8:30 to go meet Scott Crystal and his volunteers, Becky and Ellie, at Save the Turtles on Playa Venao. He talked about his mission at Save the Turtles, which he discovered during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. He helps to relocate, hatch, and nurse turtles to release in order to increase their endangered numbers. After the talk, we went around picking up small pieces of trash on the nearby beach with them. Right as we were about to leave it started to rain, something that would be a recurring challenge this day.

For lunch we went back to Oleajes del Sabor, where Glimpsers had a choice between grilled chicken and chopped steak, both with a side of rice, beans, and tahalas (fried plantain slices), which we enjoyed while watching the Argentina vs Austria World Cup match.

After we finished eating, we went on a 15 minute bus ride to Playita Resort, where we’d be spending most of our afternoon at its beach, with our own lifeguards. We had tons fun in the water like water volleyball and carrying people around. We also had a lot of fun playing in the sand like building sandcastles, digging, and burying Andre and turning him into a mermaid. The day wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, throughout the day the rain returned and started thundering and pouring. This didn’t put a damper on us, as many of us stayed in the water despite it. Sadly, we had to leave slightly earlier than expected due to the weather conditions. Still, all together we had a great day!

Check back tomorrow night for our last CAP blog post!
