Hello friends and family!! We are proud to announce we have powered through CAP day 1, and now entered CAP day 2. We started off our day extra early, waking up all our fellow Glimpsers to a scrumdiliumptious surprise. We were served sandwiches with cheese, tomato, ham, and lettuce, with a side of fruit to fuel us up for a long day of work. Little did we know we would have a sweet treat for breakfast as well, including avena and hot chocolate 😋! After breakfast we started our day loading gardening tools into our party bus, heading to beautify our CAP school, no cap😉. With hard work and perseverancia, we were able to finish the garden. This included the dirt beds for the plants and the fence surrounding, where students will be able to learn about sustainability and protecting the environment. Highlighting the importance of sustainability, we created a mural sharing the rules of their new garden!! Although the work was hard and tedious, we still had a lot of fun moments like bonding over music, laughter, and building friendships through teamwork. The leaders of our CAP project Victor and Luka helped guide us through our work, showing us how to use different tools and reach éxito! Because of them, we received the materials we needed and learned how to utilize them to complete the CAP project, helping us gain new life skills that we will take and keep with us in our daily lives. At the half way mark we headed back to the Villa to enjoy a new lunch, including corn rice, pork chops, corn bread, veggies, fruit, and a common food enjoyed in the Dominican Republic, fried plantains! After filling our bellies to the ABSOLUTE brim #deliciosoooooo #YUM😛, we partied our way back to our CAP site for another 3 hours where we made our final touches on the garden and mural 🎉. To celebrate completing the second work load of CAP day 2, ours PC’s Emmie and Daniel treated us (kinda, sorta) to a long walk to the nearest ice cream parlor, where we bought our own ice cream. It was delicious and totally worth it, just the reward we needed! #sweettreat🍦💝! We then had free time at the Villa, debriefing to each other in a conversation circle, as others enjoyed their break. We also got to hear from you all during our second phone call home, which we all have been patiently waiting for. Our lovely cooks held yet another surprise for us all for dinner, serving a classic American comfort meal, french fries and fried chicken tendies!! This sweet gesture gave our taste buds a sense of home☺️. The moment became even more special as the sun set painting the sky, giving us a beautiful view as we ate. And the moment we have all been waiting for… blog comments and WORLD CUP UPDATES ⚽️🏆! Although we have been on a technology cleanse, this taste of what’s going on in the world makes us feel up to date on what we may have been missing out on. #socute🫰! As the day came to an end, we held our nightly meeting where people really opened up and shared their appreciation for one another, which was incredibly sweet and heartwarming. Many people were shouted out for their selfless work translating to locals and hard work throughout the day. Today we had a lot more positive feedback, which made us 3 feel accomplished and confident as leaders of the day. As we sign off, we are grateful for this opportunity to practice our leadership skills and give a little something back to the community in hopes of it inspiring and educating future generations. Like sustainability, we want our work to benefit this community in the long run, not just temporarily. 🌱
B T DUBS- Thank you to our families for supporting and following our journey, we love and miss you all, can’t wait to see you soon!!
Love, Joellie 🐈, Maddy🧁, and Railynn 🦄
